Six of my latest paintings are currently showing in The Art Space gallery in Urunga NSW, Australia. If you are local or travelling during the next month please call in to see the all women show.
These paintings surprised me when they ‘arrived’. Now that they are here I can see a connection to my past work, but they came from joyous play and experimentation. Isn’t that the best way to birth something new?
I find them particularly interesting as I get a sense of ‘water’ from them. (It’s OK if you don’t – it wasn’t intentional anyway.) While not strictly ‘landscape’ they are still a lot closer to abstract landscapes than I planned. In fact, I planned NOT to do abstract landscapes.
But the longer I live in my beach cottage surrounded by birdsong, trees, sky and beach, the more I can see landscape elements slipping into my work. And I’m starting to love it. I still don’t plan on chasing it or deliberately painting abstract landscapes, but if they come, well and good.
