OEB is one of a series of small paintings created in my studio with collage elements found in my studio. How can I ‘find’ things in my studio? I can because of the history of the space, a former workshop and store room under my childhood beachside holiday house. My parents retired here and when I moved in the storeroom had also accumulated stuff from other family members as well.
There was a lot to clear out before I could call it my studio. Sorting through eons of papers I found and collected their notebooks, pamphlets, magazines, books and documents. These papers have been a rich source of both inspiration and memory. The retro colours of this series of paintings was led by the papers themselves.
OEB includes my electronics engineer father’s notes as well as other collage elements from the 60s and 70s. His initials – OEB – can be seen in his handwritten pencil notes.
